ANALYSIS
Santos will be returning for the first time since he was barely defeated by Jon Jones in July of 2019. He has been on the sidelines since then, recovering from multiple knee surgeries. Both knees require surgery
Light HeavyweightUFC
July 17, 2019
Santos is scheduled to undergo surgery on both knees Wednesday afternoon in Los Angeles, Guilherme Cruz of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The main injuries suffered in his UFC 239 loss to Jon Jones occurred on the left knee of Santos, where he sustained damage to multiple ligaments and his meniscus. After another round of exams Monday, however, doctors ruled that a small procedure on his right meniscus would be necessary as well. Santos nearly stole a championship belt from Jones in their UFC 239 fight, earning many new fans with his resilient effort that outright puzzled his doctors. Those new fans will have to wait quite a while to see Santos back in the Octagon, as his projected absence could very well extend to the summer of 2020 due to the severity of the damage.
